Murals for playgrounds and children’s spaces in Cyprus

Animals, landscapes, marine patterns and starry stories for places where children play, learn and rest. Custom wall and perimeter murals developed around the children’s age, the character of the space and its architecture.

I’m Emil Stasovskiy, the artist known as ELMIO. My portfolio includes a residential playground in Moni, Atlant & Aqua Baby children’s pool, a nursery with bears and constellations, and City Skate Park. These projects range from a wall beside a child’s bed to an extended outdoor fence.

01 / Your space

Artwork shaped around children and the place

A children’s mural starts with how the space is used. On a playground, artwork is seen from a distance and while moving; in a bedroom, beside a bed or play area; in a learning centre, alongside furniture and teaching materials. We begin with the visitors’ ages, viewing positions and the walls available for painting.

Every surface does not need to be filled. One illustrated wall, a few large characters or a continuous landscape can establish a theme. Colour and detail are considered together with play equipment, planting, finishes and the existing interior palette, so the artwork belongs to its surroundings.

Playgrounds and shared play courtyards

A perimeter mural can connect long wall sections through a shared story. Animals, trees, hills and water can extend real planting, as at Moni playground. For a new project, photographs should show changes in height, wall joints and equipment that obscures part of the image.

Children’s centres and playrooms

An original composition can be developed for a playroom, kindergarten or learning centre around its age group and purpose. We discuss how children move, where activities take place and which areas should stay visually calm. Any wording or learning elements are agreed with the owner or centre team.

Children’s pools and clubs

A marine theme can connect walls, corners and columns. At Atlant & Aqua Baby, waves, bubbles and underwater shapes share a blue and turquoise palette. This is artwork for surrounding walls and columns; humidity, splashes and cleaning routines need to inform the choice of materials.

Children’s rooms at home

A home mural can draw on a child’s interests and the room’s overall mood. In project 031, a mother bear and her cub became part of a starry sky above a mountain lake. For your wall, we consider the bed, shelves and lighting, the child’s age and the family’s preferences for colour and detail.

From a child’s bedroom to an outdoor playground

Four published projects show how the artistic approach changes with age group and setting. An animal playground mural, a marine pool interior, a gentle starry story and dynamic skate park graphics answer different briefs. Open the project pages for descriptions, overall views and details.

Lion and green landscape painted on a residential playground wall in Moni

Moni · 2026 · Project 027

Moni Playground

Lions, elephants, parrots and other animals share a continuous natural landscape. Greenery, streams and a low horizon visually extend the garden onto the perimeter wall. The mural gives the long wall around the playground a friendly, playful character.

A Starry Sky for a Nursery

Ursa Major and Ursa Minor are incorporated into a mother bear and her cub. Below them, a mountain lake and forest use soft blues and warm pastel tones. Painted with water-based enamel paint, the mural was developed for the wall beside a child’s bed.

03 / Artistic approach

Characters, colour and a shared story

We can start with a theme that interests the children and suits the place: animals, the sea, space, nature or movement. Character scale, palette and detail follow. A playground for younger children and a venue for teenagers need different imagery. Portfolio examples help discuss a direction, while the new sketch responds to your particular brief.

The whole wall matters as much as an individual detail. Photographs need to show equipment, doorways, plants, lighting and areas hidden by furniture. For a long fence, we plan the main scenes and transitions in advance. In a room, the composition is considered alongside the bed, desk and storage.

Animals and illustrated characters

Expressive figures can build a clear visual story. At Moni, different animals share one landscape; in the nursery, bears connect with constellations. For a new project, we discuss original characters, their personalities and their place within the overall theme.

Blue and turquoise marine shapes on a column at the children’s pool

Landscapes, patterns and transitions

A mural can connect several surfaces through a shared rhythm. Pool waves continue around corners and columns, while the playground landscape links separate scenes. This approach helps decide where a large focal point belongs and where colour and simpler shapes are enough.

Gentle colours or dynamic graphics

The palette follows the purpose of the place. Soft blues and pastels were chosen for the bear nursery; City Skate Park uses contrasting rider imagery and lettering. Saturation and detail are developed for the audience and surroundings rather than treating every children’s space as equally bright.

04 / Process

How a children’s space mural takes shape

Understand the place and brief

Send photographs, wall dimensions, the location and preferred timing. Explain the age group, the activities and who makes the decisions. For a residential complex or shared courtyard, identify the responsible contact and agree permission to paint the selected wall before work is planned.

Choose a theme and develop the sketch

We discuss mood, characters, palette and detail. An interior design or the centre’s colours can inform the composition. This stage establishes the main scenes and how they connect. You do not need a finished image before making an initial enquiry.

Agree the surface, scope and schedule

Photographs and a site review help establish wall condition, preparation, height and access. Equipment protection, separation of the working area, budget and timing are discussed separately. Outdoor work takes weather into account; an operating centre needs an agreed schedule and arrangements to close the affected area.

Paint the mural and discuss care

The working area needs to be separated from children’s activities. Materials, ventilation, drying and the return to normal use are determined for the particular surface and coating instructions. The photographs below show two realised solutions: artwork within a playground setting and a painted poolside column.

05 / Budget

What does a playground or children’s room mural cost?

Area is only part of the estimate. One character on a simple background, a detailed illustrated scene and a continuous perimeter mural require different preparation and painting time. We can discuss an initial estimate from photographs and dimensions, then refine it once the design and surface condition are clear.

  • Size and scope: one wall, several zones, columns or the perimeter of a playground.
  • Design complexity: the number of characters, background detail, wording and transitions between scenes.
  • Surface condition: existing paint, cracks, moisture and the preparation the wall needs.
  • Site conditions: height, access, equipment, location and separation of the working area.
  • Concept development: any existing sketch or interior design, theme selection and composition development.

Send overall photographs, wall width and height, your preferred theme and timing. Include a budget range if one is already set: we can discuss a suitable balance of focal scenes and background areas. The form below sends an estimate enquiry; the final cost is discussed after clarifying the brief.

Playground and children’s mural FAQs

Can you paint a long playground perimeter wall?

Yes, a continuous composition can combine several focal points with quieter transitions. At Moni, animals are connected by a natural landscape. For your wall, send photographs along its whole length, dimensions, joint positions and information about the substrate to help define the design and preparation.

Can we discuss a mural for a children’s centre or playroom?

Yes. The brief can take account of the age group, centre activities, furniture and how the room is used. Plans, photographs and theme preferences are useful. The published examples on this page are a playground, pool, home nursery and skate park; a centre’s composition would be developed for its own setting.

Which paints are used in children’s spaces?

Materials depend on the substrate and conditions. For example, the bear nursery uses water-based enamel paint, while Atlant & Aqua Baby was painted with spray paint. These examples do not define one solution for every wall. Venue requirements, ventilation, drying and care are agreed before painting begins.

Can children use the area during painting?

Children need to be kept out of the working area. Phased work and timing are discussed beforehand with the owner or venue team. The return to normal use depends on the selected coating, drying conditions and manufacturer’s instructions; there is no single time that applies to every project.

How should the wall be prepared, and how long will painting take?

The substrate and existing coating need assessment. Show cracks, peeling paint, moisture and areas exposed to sun or rain. Preparation and timing depend on area, image complexity and access. Outdoor murals are also planned around the weather.

How should an outdoor or poolside mural be cared for?

Mention cleaning frequency, contact with water, cleaning products and physical wear in advance. These affect preparation and coating selection. Care is discussed for the particular material and surface; poolside wall decoration does not include painting the inside of the pool basin.

Let’s discuss your children’s space mural

Tell me what you want to decorate: a playground, shared courtyard, children’s centre, pool or room at home. Include the location, age group, dimensions and preferred timing. Attach photographs of the walls and surroundings, plans and references if available so we can discuss the theme, preparation and budget.

If you do not have an idea yet, start with the purpose of the place and the mood you want. For a large playground, we can discuss several main scenes; for a small room, one wall or a single composition. Scope and detail are chosen around your brief.
